Her acting debut was on stage in an off-Broadway production of The Big Funk by John Patrick Shanley in 1990. Her next role was her first role on television, The Perfect Tribute. In 1992 she got her breakthrough after being cast in the movie Basic Instinct as a secondary character. In The Firm, she played the lead female role for the first time. She was on the screen alongside Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman. In the 90s, she worked with some of the biggest stars in the industry including Gwyneth Paltrow on Sliding Doors Hugh Grant in Mickey Blue Eyes and Julie Andrews in Relative Values. Recently she played Dr Alex Blake in the internationally popular police procedural crime drama Criminal Minds.
